DOBERMAN / TIMBER PILING AND ACCESS ROUTES

Timber Piling and Access Routes

Doberman can deliver timber piling from standing tree to installed pile. We combine mechanical harvesting, de-limbing, cutting to length, handling and installation around the site and the finished work you need.

Plan harvesting and installation as one process

Select suitable standing timber for the required species, dimensions and installed performance. Plan machine access, harvesting, processing and transfers so the installation plant stays supplied.

With the right machines and attachments, the normal cycle can run without personnel on foot in the active working area. This reduces routine manual handling and support-labour demand. The piling operator, dedicated radio-linked banksman and other planned supervision or emergency roles remain part of the method.

Timber piles matched to the design

The project designer determines pile dimensions, layout, embedment, capacity, connections and design life. Timber selection includes strength, straightness, defects, wet weight and durability in the actual exposure. The machine, grip and piling tool must suit the material and the installation task.

Doberman provides practical operating and handling input around that design. Installation acceptance and any refusal or damage criteria are agreed before work, so the operator knows when to continue and when the method needs review.

Access routes on wet or difficult ground

Suitable softwood forest blocks can provide local material for access routes and roads where ground is very wet or weak. The route design may use laid timber, timber foundations or piles, with the required connections and surfacing.

Wetland and marine settings need specific ground, water, environmental and durability assessment. Support for construction plant and the finished route must both be established. Our amphibious and wetland equipment support can help explore access and operating arrangements.

Assessing the potential carbon benefit

Local timber may reduce imported materials and transport. Assess the saving against the actual alternative over the project’s life, including harvesting, soil and peat disturbance, machinery, maintenance, replacement and end of life. The material choice alone does not establish the carbon outcome.

Mechanical handling beyond the piling machine

For remote projects, adapted forestry machines may help carry timber and other piling materials between the delivery point and the work. We can explore plant and attachment development with the relevant suppliers and designers.

The timber piling and remote-access sections of our piling equipment guide explain what to consider when selecting equipment. For steel sheets, use our separate MOVAX and sheet-piling service.

Discuss timber piling or an access route

Send the location, drawings or intended use, available timber, route dimensions and expected traffic loads, ground and water information and your programme. Tell us which design and permissions are already in place.
